Mission
What area of Social Justice/Catholic Social Teaching will be your focus?
We are going to be focusing on the life and dignity of the human person. We chose this aspect of Catholic Social Teaching because we feel that those with special needs are sometimes treated with a lower level of respect than others. We feel that they might often feel as though they are cut off from the world and have no purpose. We want to help eliminate this feeling of worthlessness through our love and compassion to all.
Why did you select this area?
We selected this area of Catholic Social Teaching because we feel that some people with special needs do not have a lot of contact with people outside of their care centers and their families. It breaks our hearts that so many young adults with disabilities experience loneliness and feel as though they have no purpose in their lives. The Summerhouse gives these people a place in the world, and through the money we raise, they will be able to reach more people with special needs, giving them a purpose. Since The Summerhouse employs such young adults in their shredding business, they will use the money we raise to buy a new shredder in order to incorporate more money into their program. Thus, we will play a key role in helping others feel genuinely loved.
